We punish as a society and we punish in private. We punish out of revenge and we punish as parents. Every culture and every time has its way of chastising. We rarely dare to take a look at the why and how we penalize. For the project "Punishment", the Stapferhaus took a look behind the scenes of various penal institutions and asked: What rules does a society need? And how does it deal with them being broken?

Based on this research, an exhibition, a book, a teaching aid and a series of events were created.
