Cars move us. Not only from A to B, but also deep in our souls. The automobile conveys independence and an air of well-being. It stands for freedom and lifestyle, desire and passion. Whether you share these feelings or not, they are one of the reasons why 13 trillion kilometres are travelled by car every day and 16.5 million hours are spent in traffic jams every weekday.

For the project Autolust, the Stapferhaus went in search of everything that makes the car so much more than just a means of transport. We talked to sound designers, car manufacturers, psychologists and historians and - last but not least - to drivers about what they feel behind the wheel and what their car means to them.
